The
Hilda Mendoza Spelzhaus Children's Room
Mrs. Spelzhaus's family provided the library with a Memorial Fund
after her passing. They specifically asked that the money be used for
"something for the children" and "something that would last."
In the summer of
1999, the library used the Memorial Fund to contract with Amon Easley,
who painted the children's room. The bright, festive room is
kid-friendly, with favorite book characters brought to life on its walls.
The
children's room also has several computers, which were funded by the Dr. Billy
Mills Memorial Fund. Dr. Mills's family requested that the money donated in his
honor be used to provide "technology for the children."
The Hilda Mendoza Spelhaus Children's Room was dedicated to her memory on October 21, 1999.
