The Annie B. Proctor Arkansas Room

Annie Proctor served as librarian from 1931 until 1984.  During that time, she coordinated the collection of over 750 books, pamphlets, and related materials called The Arkansas Collection.  There are extensive genealogy records, statistics, and geographical information, all claiming a part in Arkansas history.

In 1984, Arkansas State Historian John Ferguson and his staff examined the materials and declared the collection a "unique and valuable collection" and "a significant historic resource for the state."  Many items in this collection are available nowhere else.

There are cemetery records, court records, marriage records, family records, school yearbooks, biographical and historical memoirs, and other public works, many dating back more than 100 years.  There are also several very rare volumes, including "Pine Tree Times" by Richard Owen Ellis, "History of St. Francis County" by Robert W. Chowning, and "The Forrest City Times Art Souvenir" (1905).

Most of these items cannot be checked out, and some of the most valuable items are under lock and key, but all materials are available to our library patrons.
